The 2009 Upstream Walk raised over $165,000!

The fifth annual Upstream 50km challenge was held on the 7th of November 2009. Over 500 participants headed upstream from Waterfront City in Docklands along the Yarra river, to finish at Donvale in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Last years record holder, Robert Hall, managed to keep the title of fastest individual male with a time of 3:51:35. The fastest individual female time of 5:25:52 was set by newcomer Amon Shedden. For the second year running, Team Scooter, consisting of Darren Mooney and Nikki Wynd, won the fastest team category in a time of 4:52:22.

Regular participant, Brian Glover, was our hero of the day. Prior to our event, Brian had participated in 100 marathons making the Upstream challenge number 101. It seems one marathon that weekend was not enough for Brian as the following day, his 67th birthday no less, he took part in the Marysville Marathon!

The 2009 Upstream 50km Challenge has raised over $170,000 so far. 100% of all donations will go directly to projects run by the following four beneficiaries; Camp Quality, Leukaemia Foundation, Samaritan’s Purse (Cambodia) Leprosy Mission (Nigeria).
